After Geoff Lawson’s column in The Telegraph where he revealed that during his tenure as Pakistan coach a selector had his daughter’s life threatened, ANI have spoken to somebody who say is Mohammed Aamer’s brother. Naturally his brother would defend him, nobody is surprised by that.
“My brother is innocent. He has been trapped in an international conspiracy to defame our cricket team and country,” said Mohammad Ijaz, the elder brother of Amir told ANI.
Conspiracy….I dunno if I would go that far. As much as I believe Aamer is innocent and was dragged into (yes, I am defending him) I don’t know if I would go quite as far as saying that it’s a conspiracy to defame him.
“Anybody can bowl a no ball at any time. I can give an oath on behalf of Amir that he is innocent,” said Ijaz, adding that his brother was worried when he spoke to him on the telephone from London on Sunday.
The bit above particularly irks me because the video evidence is a bit more damning than “bowling a no ball at any time”.
“He is tense and worried. He told me he has nothing to do with this scandal. He has been set up because he was performing well,” he said.
As somebody pointed out, he was smiling when he was leaving Taunton. Not that this has anything to do with anything but it might show that he is not as ‘stressed and tense’ as his brother said. This is an ASSUMPTION and we all know who assumption is the mother of.
Again, I must stress that I do believe Aamer is innocent (in the bigger scheme of things anyway) but it just seems people are starting to clutch at straws now. Maybe it’s time to take off my rose tinted specs…
“We know him and he knows that the country”s respect is dearest to us. We love our country more than his career,” Ijaz added.
