As mentioned in the post in which I requested you to don the role of KKR Coach, this is the first in a set of questions for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Last season, John Buchanan proposed the multiple captain theory, something which was rubbished in principle by many experts and fans around the world. It was scrapped of course, and McCullum went on to lead the Knight Riders in their worst season ever.
This season, under the guidance of Dav Whatmore, the team from Bengal look to do things the proper way. With Saurav Ganguly back as skipper, things are looking good on the fan-following front as well.
Which brings us back to my preseason question:
Should Saurav Ganguly have been made skipper for IPL 2010? Support your answer with reasoning.
If you believe that yes, it is a good move to bring the stalwart back as skipper, let me know.
Or, if you feel that McCullum or Gayle or any other man would have brought in more perspective for the job, just say it.

The 36 year old left-hander began his Test career in 1996 in sensational style, scoring a century on debut at Lords – the first (and only) Indian to have done so. His departure too was done in similar sensational fashion: a century (102 at Mohali) in his penultimate match, a half century (85) in the first innings of his final game at Nagpur, and – almost as if he could not resist the temptation to emulate Don Bradman himself – a duck in his final innings.
His nickname Dada comes from the Hindi for ‘older brother ‘ – and he certainly played the role of mentoring older brother to young players in his team like Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. But in colloquial Hindi, the term Dada has other connotations – implying more a leader, a ringleader, even a Don. And it was not only in the manner of his departure that Dada could be compared to Don Bradman himself.
No comparisons please. When you compare the player loose his own value. Ganguly himself is great and has his own identity.

A few months after he took over the captaincy, when Australia arrived to play a Test series in india, they were at the top of their game – world champions with 15 straight Test wins behind them, with India being the final hurdle in the path of this Australian juggernaut.
Well educated , confident (to the point of even being described in some quarters as arrogant!) and articulate (his years in the classrooms at St Xavier’s were obviously not wasted), Ganguly in impeccable English made calculated snipes at his opponents at press conferences, kept his opposing captain fuming by turning up late for the toss, showed the Australians he could sledge as well as they could in their own language – and in the battle of mind games (as Australian captain Steve Waugh was to concede later) he got the better of the Australians. His team came up trumps, defeating Australia 2-1 in that series and denying them the record-breaking 17 straight wins they were seeking.
By the time he retired, Ganguly had established himself as India’s most successful cricket captain, with 21 wins achieved under his leadership that spanned 49 Test matches. Even the timing of his retirement, going out at the top of his game, could not have been timed better.

definitely y me4ans if you mak any other member the captain ganguly the senoir most ,well experienced , the excellent player, the most successful captain of the indian team, think what goes in his mind ,and how come the other captain can give order r suggestion and there will b full of differce among the players and themselves and ther will b no point of co operation among them
and their confidence levels will b very low

this ipl the kkr team is the best team but the only thing is they should stik to basicsssssss
DADA’s captaincy…no doubt its par excellence!!Every time he leaves us speechless!!N ufcose,his performance,as a skipper,as player,n as a teammate….leaves those mouths shut which blabber out continuously…which they call criticism!!Even in this age,he has shown,his capability!!Can comments n opinions really appreciate his capabilities!!Just in few simple words…no team can stand Dada’s captaincy…if anybody can for grant co-players’, if not 100..at least 80% ,efforts…dada can manage d rest!!
He has a wonderful capability to back his abilities….his changes in bowling have struck gold for India…and he has a lot to achieve in this edition of the IPL…Also given the benchstrength he is the best option we have as the skipper….here’s not undermining his abilities but he has to prove his mettle once again if he’s got to continue as captain…we know u have prooved enough but we also know dat u will stand up to the challenge once again…Wishing u and ur knights all the luck..

Yes DADA is the best captian of KKR.we need his long time captianship.
there is scope for improvement in fielding as it is said catches wins the matches. nothing wrong in dada. if dada fails rest should shoulder the match.
Sourav Ganguly aka DADA aka the PRINCE of Kolkata is an enigmatic player. hes India’s most successful captain till date and the most stylish and elegant player ever. The amount of confidence that he oozes into the team by giving responsibility to others and by leading by example is simply swesome. he has definitely brought a turnaround in KKR’s fate this season as compared to the last IPL.he sholud definitely stay as the captain of the KKR team. I am sure he will take the team to new heights!!!

HE CAN HANDLE THE TEAM VERY WELL.

ganguly is the greatest fighter and great skipper too but he had to compromise with his selfishness to bat at opening and bat at 1or2 down so team will score big and leave this mentality that if he will not score so no one will pick him up in next ocction an and make the kkr is a champion winner of 2010 and he will be a star and chosen by many by hear not by compromise so ganguly be a winner and left to all at good good luck and best wishes but keep mind it if u can

No doubt about it that Ganguly is the most successful skipper in Indian cricket and the best part of him is that he brings out the best from a player whom he trusts. t

i want to say that as a skipper DADA doing so well for KKR, and team management should same for KKR (Means every year KKR should same KKR Staffing member).
He (Ganguly) is the most successful captain for INDIA as well as KKR and Bengal also. I knew to him since last 20 years and i have a lots of collection of Saurav Ganguly (Like MOM, MOS, Winning moment, Records of ODI & TEST also Etc. etc). He is best in all format of international cricket. but why he took the decision of his retirement from International cricket.
When Ganguly play i must see only his eyes like twinkling star.

As per my knowledge today we have a great player like Zaheer Khan is the person who had been failing at times but given chances and adviced by this great skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders and ******Even in the last match of his test match we had seen Dhoni paying tribute to the Former great captain of India by giving chance for him to set the field for the last over he played.************It was really so pathetic situation for me as i lost my favorite player.And again he is back as captain. So, i definitely feel that he can do it as captain.The wonderful instance is his yesterdays match of 88 runs as captain innings. He need to gain confidence to be aggressive and i feel he had gained enough confidence to do so…ALL THE BEST TO MY FAVORITE FORMER INDIAN CAPTAIN

I have some appraisal for Ganguly which is less for the great player like him, I salute his leadership.. n.. contribution to the Indian Cricket… he is the most aggressive captain of India.. If today Indian Players aggressive than all credits to the Ganguly..

Even world cup defeat wasn’t of India but it was a defeat of Greg Chappel, Team India performing well without Coach. However way back to Guru Greg Era, from the beginning Chappel’s way wasn’t suitable to Indian Team Culture, he treat the team like a dictator even sometime it seems that he was above everyone (including BCCI). Greg became the cause ouster of Sourabh Ganguly (Most Successful Caption of India) & other players was out-in on account of so called Guru Greg. He required a puppet captain and got in the form of The Wall of Team India Mr. Rahul Dravid who abides his order. Coaches work consist to improve the fielding, batting, bowling etc. as his predecessor Mr. John Wright did, he always worked in his own limit and never create any issue related to players selection. Mr. Greg was the first coach who blamed to the Team for World Cup debacle,..

Yes u r right Saurav Dada as a skipper for IPL 2010 is a perfect choice. He knows better the indian climate, pitches condition, Local Indian support, chemistry of local players, experience as skipper, success stories can be repeated by his out standing experience. No other thought Shahrukh should think.
