It’s hard to hate a man with such a tremendous beard. Not only does he have a tremendous beard though, he is also a marvellous player and the epitome of humility – one of the few cricketers in the South African team who seem to possess this quality.
For somebody notoriously known for slating the South African cricket team, I have nothing bad to say about Hashim Amla. Nothing. Except maybe that he is from Durban and that kinda sucks because it would be way cooler if he were born in Cape Town – then we could say now: “damn, dat Cape Town kid gone and done good again”.
Last night at the hoity toity Cricket South Africa annual awards ceremony (held in Jozi, ’cause Cape Town is just not cool enough) The Bearded Prodigy almost cleaned up. He won five out of the six awards he was nominated for. Five. If that is not a testament to how great this man is then I don’t know what is.
SA Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year, SA Players’ Player of the Year, CSA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year and the KFC “So Good!” Award – these all the accolades the 27-year old can add to his CV. That is really not bad.
I once saw a picture of him without his beard – and he looks pretty hot without it. Not that I would want him to shave it again, just now that is where his super power lies. We wouldn’t want him to lose that, would we?
Some say that he should be the next captain of South Africa, and as great a feat as that would be, I disagree. Unfortunately, because Amla is so focussed on what he does, I reckon captaining a side might just distract him from his batting since he will throw his whole being into the captaincy.
I’d love to be proven wrong, though.
Ho hum Hamla, I salute you.

I actually think he might just be the next test captain. Not in all three formats though…I don’t think he will be able to handle it.
Yay Hash!
Would be great to see him at the helm for a couple of years but I think that Smith was given a lifelong contract
