Apparently Herschelle Gibbs has a book. An autobiography or something. Funny that, this is a man who says he never reads. Not that anyone expect him being able to read, I mean….seriously, all that partying is gonna catch up to your IQ at some point.
The whole ‘hook’ of his autobiography is, apparently, raunchy details about how Gibbs and some team mates did the dirty with several Australian ‘lasses’ while on tour Down Under. Correct me if I am wrong but who the hell wants to read about Gibbs getting it on with (almost) under aged girls in a hotel room? Really? Is that what the world of sport autobiographies have come to? No tales of the guts and the glory, tales of Kamp Staaldraad? No stories about getting up at 4am to train until you puke your lungs out? No stories about how pulling that jersey over your head for the first time made you weep because it was such a tremendous honour to play for your country?
None of that? Instead our sports stars are selling biographies that reek of tabloid bullshit, filled to the brim with smut sensationalism and the public will eat it up all while make rubbish jokes like: “well, now we know why they are choking, haha, wink, wink, nudge, nudge”.
The sad reality is that sensationalist rubbish is exactly what our beloved sport has become. Fireworks, super subs, T20 contracts across the world and pyjama party cricket has infiltrated our sacred game and it’s eating it up from the inside out all while a sick, demented and gluttonous nations chuckle at the hilarity of it all.
What a disgrace, sometimes I wish I wasn’t part of this at all.

I totally agree.
When I first read about Gibbs releasing a book today, and its contents, I was immediately thinking “Whoa, so that’s the kind of crap he intends to sell his book through”.
It’s stupid, we all know Gibbs always had these big off-field problems, and instead of trying to cover them a bit up he goes all public about them. The incidents with his ex-wife also seem to be told without regret. I’m actually glad this guy doesn’t play for SA anymore.
Yeah, it’s messed up. The worst part about it is that stuff like that will SELL. And it’ll sell in a big way too. Embarrassing.
Its funny how Gibbs wants to take this route to market his book! There could have been so many other ways…
Had he just released a small anecdote from one of his many great innings’ (maybe from the 175 while chasing a target of 435 or maybe even from that 90-odd against West Indies in the inaugural match of World Twenty20 Championship), it would have been so much more befitting an autobiography of a cricketer!
It’s sad to see what our world has come to… but then, these are the harsh realities of life!

Yep, the worst part about it for me is that people, and the South African public in particular, will eat this up like hot cakes.
Well,it seems everyone is using some sick tactic to sell some books and make their pockets heavy. So it was sort of obvious he would mention such a thing. Why else would someone buy a person’s book, when all he has done is played one good innings of 175 and hit a few sixes against Holland .

But how good was that one innings, eh?
Anyway, I’ll read the book just so I can so I read it….I just hate the way it was marketed.
gibbs might not be the smartest person around, but i bet his agent is……………..
Definitely. Book has been marketed brilliantly.
