I’m supporting Guyana, I’m half West Indian

There’s this little hit-and-giggle tea party around the corner, I think they call it the Champions League. I am almost a journalist for this post because I had to actually go research which teams are playing, I couldn’t just make it up.

Chennai Super Kings, Warriors, Victoria, Wayamba, Central Districts, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, South Australia, Guyana and the Highveld Lions will slog it out for the T20 Champions League Trophy.

I’m quite chuffed to have a little bit of cricket is coming to south Africa again since that means our welfare-TV channel might screen some of  this stuff which, of course, means that I can annoy my 400-odd followers with my live-match update.

Anyway, as with any tournament you have to choose somebody to support. The natural choice would be to pick a Saffa side but there is  no Cape Town team playing and we won’t even get to see any games here I am going to support Guyana. This does not need to be justified. I am half West Indian, that’s all that matters. And, since the whole thing is probably allegedly fixed anyway, I am going for the team who has the odds stacked against them and who will give me the biggest return on my bests. Not that I bet on sport or anything…I am just pointing out the facts/odds/allegations.

Another great reason to support Guyana is, of course: Jonathan Foo. He scored a fancy 17-ball 42 under some pressure against Barbados in the Caribbean T20 final. He’s also only 19, reason enough to believe there is hope for this lot? Probably not but I am going to support them anyway.

(I’ll be fist pumping for the Lions in secrecy).
