This is a serious post, filled with serious cricket stuff. There is no taking the mickey. I’ll be at this event tomorrow and, I can’t lie, I am kinda freaking out. I probably won’t know anyone and I’m not as important as half the people who will be there. Nonetheless, I’m stoked.
If any of you have any questions regarding the Annual, send them my way via @mspr1nt on Twitter and I’ll get them answered.
One of cricket’s longest partnerships will come to an end following the launch of the 2010 Mutual & Federal South African Cricket Annual in Johannesburg on October 19.
The 14-year sponsorship by the Mutual & Federal Insurance Company of the highly-regarded publication is coming to an end.
Colin Bryden, who has been Editor of the Annual for 16 years, including the full period of the sponsorship, paid tribute to Mutual & Federal. “Mutual & Federal have been ideal sponsors,” said Bryden. “There generosity has made it possible for the Annual to be a world-class publication, with contributions from some of the world’s leading cricket writers and personalities. The company has also provided outstanding logistical support while at the same time respecting the editorial independence of the Editor and the contributors.”
“To have been the custodians of the South African Cricket Annual, described as the most authoritative cricket publication in South Africa, for the past 14 years has been a great honour for Mutual & Federal, and we would like to see this great publication and record of South African cricket continue into the future. The last 14 years would not have possible without the superb editorship of Colin Bryden, and the ongoing support of Cricket South Africa.” said Keith Kennedy, CEO of Mutual & Federal.
The first edition of the South African Cricket Annual was published in 1952 when Geoffrey Chettle, the first Editor, produced a pocket-sized 256-page book, with a limited number of black and white photographs.
The 2010 Annual is the 57th edition of what has become a comprehensive record of South African cricket. It consists of 688 pages of articles, statistics, records, match reports, player profiles and colour photographs.
The 2010 Mutual & Federal Annual includes full reports of all South Africa’s international matches, from the Champions Trophy in September 2009 through to the tour of the West Indies which ended in June 2010.
The feature articles include an assessment of the career of Makhaya Ntini, who played in his 100th Test match last season, by his former teammates and fellow fast bowler Shaun Pollock, and an article to mark the retirement from international umpiring after a distinguished career by Rudi Koertzen.
As has become customary, there will be detailed profiles of five Mutual & Federal South African Cricket Annual Cricketers of the Year, who will be named at the launch.

Never heard of this Annual. Is it sort of South Africa’s Wisden?
I’m feeling a bit jealous *turns green*.

I don’t have much of an idea of this mutual and federal cricket thing, but it would be cool if you reported about what you saw and did etc etc. A kind of spy report if you get what I mean, like details of how our Saffa boys behave when they’re not on the big screen.
