i am not talking about the ipl here

apparently, they have their own tiny version of a local t20 competition. I did not know this, and all this while I thought they sent their national team for the airtel champions league thingie this year, and called it otago just for the heck of it.

so what is the tournament like? how many teams? (my guess is 2)…prize money? There were so many questions, and half of me wasn’t even bothered about the answers. But the other half finally won, and i set out in the quest.

a quest to discover how the black caps play domestic t20

it seems their season has already started

Northern Districts (a team) beat Auckand (another team) at  Mt. Maunganui on January 2nd. The reason for writing the exact date and not yesterday is that I am not sure when this thing will be published. No, I am not biased against publishing NZ stuff.

So, here is the basic dope:

The tournament is known as HRV Cup from this year on, previously known as just the State T20 Cup. It features international STARS like Tillakaratne Dilshan, Owais Shah and Dimitri Mascarenhas. All New Zealand international players will also be available for the entire tournament that runs from January 2 to January 31 2010 this year.

The tournament has this year been expanded from 6 to 8 rounds due to the popularity of T20 cricket. It all seems to be the mastermind of the CEO Michael Vaughan.
