in India, South Africa

The South African cricket team, caretaker coach and all, have finally landed in Nagpur, where they would be playing the tour game as well as the first teat, albeit at different stadia.

They looked all upbeat, based on the press photos, with the skipper looking his healthy best. Going by the headcount done specially on our request by the flight attendant, here is the squad:

Greame Smith (capt), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher (wk), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Ryan McLaren, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe

And of course, the new coach Corrie van Zyl

Manager: Dr. Mohammed Moosajee

Here is their itinerary for the test series:

Feb 2-3 : Tour Game, vs Board President’s XI

Feb 6-10: First Test, Jamtha, Nagpur

Feb 14-18: Second Test, Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Next Up: How this team figures statistically on Indian pitches.

Was going through the search requests for this blog, and came across many people asking me whether Dale Steyn has a girlfriend. The answer is hmm. Yes. Affirmative. Alas you females. Here she is:

the name is Jeanne, the one on the left.

The great one and only International Chaos Council (read International Cricket Council) has finally done something credible this year. It has successfully organized an awards ceremony and no one was hurt. Except the Chrab I suppose, after missing out on the best test player award in spite of winning the Best Cricketer of the year silverware.

Jumping to the awards and the Free Hit reaction to the same:

  1. Best Cricketer : Shivnarine Chanderpaul : I think it was a wise choice, but I like what some guy comments on this post about Match Winning Players like Steyn, and not Superheroes like Shiv.
  2. Best Test Player : Dale Steyn : Yes sir you are right. Agreed that most of his wickets were at home, but International Wickets are International Wickets, and they mean a lot.
  3. Best ODI Player : MS Dhoni : His efforts have finally been given international recognition, though his sponsors had started that a long way back. TFH suggestion : Mahi, grow the long locks back, the women would love you too.
  4. Best T20 player (or best 6 sixes in an over) : Yuvraj all the way. Chris Broad must still be sulking somewhere in a holiday home.
  5. Best Emerging Player : Mendis of course. Ishant should have got it too, but that’s the Indian in me speaking.
  6. Others : I don’t care. Go to Cricinfo. SL got the spirit of cricket award primarily for referring for everything. Taufel got the best umpire award. He is giving Federer a tough fight.

Till the next awards, welcome to Chaos again. As their logo suggests:
