Taking the Mickey…

by mspr1nt on January 27, 2010

in General Sweeps, South Africa

….out of the Proteas.

We all saw that pun coming. Was left wide open. While it’s a damn good thing that Mickey Arthur is gone (five years is about right for life as an international cricket coach, this is not the premier league for goodness’ sake!) the way this whole thing was handled is just laughable.

Are South Africa trying to compete with the West Indies’ Cricket Board for most laughable cricket administration of the year? Perhaps, it’s not like the Proteas can win anything else. Might as well scoop the award for clonws of the year.

Heard some stupid ENews journo ask Mike Proctor why SA decided to go with an “all white” team during the Wanders Test. As stupid as that question is it just shows that nothing has really changed in SA. If you are Muslim, coloured, Indian, Hindu or any light brown colour you are too light to be black and too black to be white. Proctor replied that Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, Ashwell Prince and all those coloured boys played this match. Truth. But in the old days they were sort of just in the middle. Like they are now.

Rumour has it that Arthur was ousted due to him “refusing” to develop up and coming black players. Have they ever thought that the black Saffas just aren’t that into cricket? They want to play soccer. Cricket is way too boring for them. If the rumours are indeed true then South Africa is more screwed than we first led on.

The big question is now, who is going replace the artful Arthur? Kepler, Buchannan, Warne, Fletcher? CSA will be handing out the new posts with complimentary shovels. So if the administration doesn’t screw the job up for you, you can do it yourself. Good night and good luck to whoever has the guts to try and survive a few years in polical bootcamp.

Sounds to me like Smith just wants to so everything himself … so let him; with his sidekick Robin Williams, I mean Boucher.

You and I are the only two people in the world who think Aurthur leaving is a good thing. People are all sad and weepy. WTF!

@ Sid – Smith had nothing to do with this. This is a very delicate political situation, something which has marred the glory of South African sport since we became a “democracy”.
@Purna – they’ll change their tunes soon enough.
