India played Bangladesh in the group stages of the last ICC World Cup in 2007. India lost. On that day, I had promised myself that I would not watch any India-Bangladesh world cup fixture in the future until India won.
It seemed like one of those futile attempts to grant India some luck, but yesterday it surely worked. While Dhoni and his UNITED men were on the field scoring those runs and then defending them, yours truly was watching some flick based on cricket. No points for guessing which one, as we aren’t spoilt for options these days when it comes to movies.
Of course, I was tuned in to the updates through GPRS and the cricinfo wap site which thankfully is still lightweight. Some would say that is not enough and I missed out on the splendid innings played by Junaid, Yuvraj and Rohit, as well as the boring innings played by Dhoni and Gauti. But India won, right? Bottom-line achieved. Mission Successful. Promise Fulfilled.
I also missed out on the supposed awesome bowling by Pragyan Ojha, but knew all about it thanks to the holy voice of Anil Kumble in the ESS studio. Harsha Bhogle has grown/grafted hair, it makes him look like a TV guy now, and a lot more geekier. Mr. Bhogle, we know you speak well. You are not there to look good. Talk cricket, and we will love you. I hope he does not become Rameez Raja – 2.
